Mera No. 1

haha..here's a post where Im going to brag !
Here's something that makes me proud :) My college (sorry ex-college)- St. Xavier's College,Mumbai has been voted the best arts college in the country after 6 years.
Says a survey done by AC Nielson, the college ranks highest in the Psychology, English Literature and Economics courses.

The year I joined Xaviers it was ranked as number 1 and now one year after I leave its number 1 again!!! Draw whatever inferences you want from there.. hehe

Good old Xaviers! Cheers to you and dear old Fr. Frazer who's running the show!

History

Taking a trip down memory lane.. walking down the path that leads to my late Grandfather's house deep deep in the rural heartland of Kerala.

My ancestral house. Built Circa 1919,the year my grandad was born.
So many births, deaths, weddings, funerals, festivals spent under this roof. In true style, the electricity went off for half the time and there were noisy sticky creepy crawly creatures all over your body.
I feel a such a sense of rich history and memories when I come here..

Faith or freedom?

What can the mind do if the body is slave to rhythmic motions of the exact kind daily? Why is the mind and its preoccupations so subject to people, situations, furniture, clothes and the conditions of the natural environment?
How is new thought born? Is it born from a free physical environment or in a state of mind that is not conditioned by the boundaries of physical reality?

The worst feeling is the one of being cheated and knowing that theres very little you can do about it. How does one react to injustice?

The madmen were right. The world is conspiring- and maybe its not in your favour.

Whats more important- happiness or duty? Faith or freedom? Popular belief or abiding by a value system?
I have no idea. Sometimes, you just get lost in the questions of your own mind that the world seems a dubious place.

Can someone please turn down the volume?

Did you know..
* That Mumbai is rated as the third noisiest city in the world..
* That the decibel count in the 17:19 Virar fast is the same as an airplane taking off..
* That noise pollution is the leading cause of heart attacks in Mumbai and Calcutta..
* 7/10 traffic policemen in Mumbai city are partially deaf...

Huh??What was that you said?? Didnt quite catch you..

Still alive

Just a quick post to say Im still alive.
After a week of city hopping and dealing with a lot of crazy people, situations and places on the way, Im at home now enjoying the fruits of labour on this much deserved Labour day holiday.

Spent the morning reading the paper and found it quite amazing how much rubbish gets printed to fill a paper.
One initiative to congratulate although is the medical students of New Delhi who have come together against reservations to minimize students of merit being enrolled in the top medical insitutions in the coutnry. Read more about their initiative
